Introduction
Hi, I’m Ashley—also known as Miss B—and I’m the heart and mind behind Miss Behaviour. My purpose is to help change the way we understand, connect, and interact with dogs. You might be surprised to learn that we as a society have deeply misunderstood dogs for a long time, and because of this, we’ve often done our furry best friends a disservice. But, it doesn’t have to stay that way and taking this course will help you begin to shift your perspective and gain a better understanding of your dog and any other dogs you encounter in life.
Through this course, I’m inviting you to join me in rethinking nearly everything we’ve been taught about dogs and dog training. This isn’t just another dog training class—it's a theory-based course designed to help you build a new foundation of understanding that will transform the way you approach training, setting you up for success with your dog both in this course and in any future work we do together. This course is designed to help you understand the science and learning theory behind why force-free training is not only humane and ethical, but also highly effective.
This is more than learning a few new tips; it’s about shifting our perspective, embracing science-backed methods, and putting compassion at the core of how we engage with our dogs. Together, we’re going to peel back the layers of outdated, often harmful methods and build a new approach that is not only more effective but also enriching for both you and your dog.
The force-free, positive reinforcement methods I teach are grounded in years of education and hands-on work with hundreds of dogs of every size, breed, and background, as well as studying research in canine behaviour and learning processes. I’m proud to be a force-free trainer, supported by leading organizations like the Pet Professional Guild (PPG), the Shock-Free Coalition and the Alberta Force Free Alliance. Their work, along with my own commitment to lifelong learning, ensures that I bring current, humane, and effective practices to you.
My approach is not about teaching your dog to obey; it’s about creating a deep, lasting bond built on trust, respect, and mutual understanding. Positive does not mean permissive. Instead, we communicate expectations by harnessing your dog’s brilliant mind, unique personality and individual strengths, guiding them toward success in our human-centered world. When you approach training in this way, you’ll realize that your dog’s behaviour is an expression of their needs and experiences. And when you understand that, your relationship will transform.
This free mini-course is here to give you a powerful foundation in the theories of force-free, positive reinforcement training and the science behind it. By understanding why I choose to use these humane, evidence-based techniques, you’ll be better equipped to work with your dog as you move through any of my other online courses or in-person offerings.
This course is also a call to leave old assumptions behind. I encourage you to set aside ego and approach this information with an open mind, ready to learn, question, and explore. I encourage you to ask questions and share your thoughts - I love to hear from students!
This course is for informational purposes only and if you are dealing with complex behavioural challenges like aggression, reactivity, or deep-seated fears, you should seek personalized guidance from a certified behaviour trainer or veterinary behaviourist. Please keep in mind that the field of dog training is currently unregulated, so it’s important to look for professional trainers with credentials that align with humane, evidence-based methods—values that bring out the best in our dogs.
I’m here to share with you everything I’ve learned so far, backed by my credentials including Certification in Canine Behaviour and Training Methodology, Dog Bite Prevention Education, Pet First Aid, and membership with the Pet Professional Guild, the Shock-Free Coalition and the Alberta Force Free Alliance. I'm also in-process on further credentials with the Pet Professional Accreditation Board and DogNostics.
My intention is to help give you a new way of seeing your dog. By the end of this course, I hope you feel inspired, empowered, and equipped to continue to make your dog’s world as bright and fulfilling as possible. When we know better, we do better!
So, if you’re ready to challenge everything you think you know about dogs, and you’re open to a new way forward, let’s get started!
